DVSA Compliance Audit Software

Run a DVSA compliance audit like a seasoned pro — even if it's your first

Compliance Audits by FTC Audit is a DVSA Earned Recognition audit platform that does far more than record your answers — it guides you through every one. Built to the official DVSA ER standard with 300+ criteria across all 10 sections, and with plain-English guidance and the exact statutory citation on every question, it turns a daunting compliance audit into a clear, step-by-step process. Seasoned auditor or running your very first audit, you produce the same professional, defensible result.

No card charged until the trial ends · 5 auditor seats included · cancel any time

A DVSA compliance audit is the single best way to know — before the DVSA or a Traffic Commissioner does — whether your operation actually stands up. But for most people the hard part isn't the will to audit; it's knowing what to check, how deep to go, and which regulation sits behind each requirement. This platform solves exactly that.

It takes the real DVSA Earned Recognition audit — the same framework an accredited assessor uses — and rebuilds it as guided software. Every section, every criterion and every qualifying question is here, each one carrying clear guidance and the citation behind it. The result is a tool that an experienced auditor can fly through, and that a complete newcomer can use to produce a credible, professional audit while learning the standard as they go.

It sits alongside our done-for-you compliance audits and the free Employer Self-Audit — three ways to audit, one standard of rigour.

Built on the real DVSA Earned Recognition audit — not a generic checklist

Plenty of "audit" tools are just a list of tick-boxes someone wrote in a spreadsheet. This isn't. The platform is structured around the official DVSA Earned Recognition standard, so what you run is a genuine DVSA compliance audit — mapped, scored and reported the way the scheme expects.

What "built on the DVSA standard" actually means

  • All 10 DVSA sections, 300+ criteria — every section, every qualifying question and every subsection from the official ER standard, structured for both HGV and PSV operators and for Standard National, Standard International and Restricted licences.
  • ARC/ACE-style operator overview — the operator profile, OCRS scores, management structure and auditor summary are captured and formatted exactly like the ARC/ACE reports DVSA Earned Recognition auditors actually use.
  • Four-band RAG scoring — every finding is graded Compliant, Advisory, Improvement Needed or Non-Compliant, per section and overall, mirroring how professional ER audit reports are written — not a meaningless single percentage.
  • Intelligent qualifying engine — answer a few setup questions and the audit tailors itself to your operation (vehicle type, licence type, ADR status, international work, tachograph exemption, maintenance arrangements) so you only ever see the questions that genuinely apply.
  • Formal, defensible output — a full PDF report with fleet overview, operator profile, section scores, advisory highlights, an action plan and a supervisor declaration: the kind of document that holds up in a Public Inquiry or an ER application.

Guidance & citations on every question — so you learn as you audit

This is what makes the platform genuinely different, and why it's as much a training tool as an audit tool. You never have to already know the standard. Beside every single question sits plain-English guidance — what good looks like, what to check, what evidence to ask for — together with the precise statutory or DVSA citation it comes from.

For anyone learning how to perform a DVSA compliance audit, that's transformative. It's like having an experienced lead auditor sitting next to you, explaining each requirement and pointing to the rule behind it. A transport manager can self-assess with real confidence; a brand-new auditor can run a professional audit on day one; and an operator can finally understand why each requirement matters, not just whether they've met it.

A platform that teaches while it audits

  • Plain-English guidance on every question — no jargon, no assumed knowledge; just what to look for and how to judge it.
  • The citation behind every requirement — the regulation, guide or DVSA standard each question is drawn from, so you can read the source and defend the finding.
  • Snap mode as a training ground — a 20–30 minute audit of the compliance basics is the perfect way to learn the essentials before tackling a full Deep Audit, and ideal for onboarding new auditors.
  • Built-in audit intelligence — automatic cross-checks flag issues a novice might miss, such as a vehicle MOT-tested before it was added to the licence, or outstanding safety recalls on an audited vehicle.
  • Confidence for first-timers, speed for experts — the same engine that teaches a newcomer lets a seasoned auditor move at pace, because the guidance is there when wanted and out of the way when not.
Three audit modes

Right-size every audit to the job at hand

Pick the depth the situation needs — a full Deep Audit for formal sign-off, a rapid Snap Audit on the basics, or a Focused Section Audit when only one area matters.

Deep Audit

Full DVSA ER standard · 300+ criteria

The complete Earned Recognition audit — all 10 sections, every qualifying question, every subsection. Produces the full formal PDF with fleet overview, operator profile, action plan and supervisor sign-off.

Use for: formal audits, Public Inquiry preparation, ER scheme applications, annual operator audits.

Snap Audit

Compliance basics · 20–30 minutes

A focused subset covering the critical, compliance-basic items — the things that matter most at a Traffic Commissioner appearance or a spot-check. Full scoring, full report, a fraction of the time.

Use for: monthly health-checks, pre-audit rehearsals, rapid triage, new-operator onboarding, learning.

Focused Section Audit

One section · drill down where it counts

Pick any single DVSA section — Vehicle Standards, Driver Standards, Transport Manager, whatever the concern — and audit just that area in full depth.

Use for: remediation after a warning letter, follow-ups on previous non-compliance, TM handovers, thematic improvement.

Not sure which one you need?

Audits come in three forms at FTC — most operators use more than one.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is DVSA Earned Recognition?+
Earned Recognition is a DVSA scheme that lets compliant HGV and PSV operators demonstrate high standards through regular, independent audits. Accredited operators benefit from fewer DVSA roadside encounters and a strong reputational advantage with customers, insurers and the Traffic Commissioner. The FTC Audit platform is built directly on the DVSA ER audit standard, so the audit you run mirrors the one an accredited assessor would carry out.
Do I need to be an experienced auditor to use it?+
No — and that is the point. Every question carries plain-English guidance explaining what good looks like and what evidence to ask for, plus the exact statutory or DVSA citation behind it. It is like having an experienced lead auditor at your shoulder, so a transport manager or a brand-new auditor can perform a credible DVSA compliance audit and learn the standard as they go. Snap mode in particular is an ideal way to learn the basics before running a full Deep Audit.
What is the difference between Deep, Snap and Focused audits?+
Deep is the full DVSA Earned Recognition audit — 300+ criteria across all 10 sections, producing the complete formal PDF report for sign-off. Snap is a curated subset covering the compliance basics — a rapid 20–30 minute health-check ideal for monthly internal reviews, pre-audit rehearsals or learning. Focused drills into a single section, such as Vehicle Standards or Driver Standards, for remediation, follow-ups or thematic reviews.
How is the app different from booking an FTC audit?+
A booked FTC audit is done-for-you — an FTC consultant audits your operation and writes the report, from £549. The app is do-it-yourself — you, your transport manager or your own consultancy run unlimited DVSA audits in software for a fixed subscription. Many operators use the app for frequent internal Snap audits and book an FTC Deep Audit for the independent annual assessment.
What live integrations does the platform have?+
Enter a vehicle registration and the platform pulls live DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service data (make, model, fuel, Euro status, plated weight, tax) and DVSA MOT and Annual Test history (test record, pass rate, mileage between tests, outstanding recalls). Companies House auto-fills the operator profile during setup, and OCRS reports can be forwarded by email and parsed automatically — no manual data entry.
How do QR-verified reports work?+
When an org admin signs off an audit, a SHA-256 fingerprint of its contents is captured and a public verify URL goes live. The QR code printed on the report cover links to a branded verification page showing the operator, audit dates, auditor and section RAG scores — and a clear indicator of whether anything has changed since publication. It lets operators prove report integrity to the Traffic Commissioner, insurers or customers.
How much does it cost and how do the seats work?+
Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with no card charged until it ends. After that it is £14.99 per month or £149 per year (saving 17%, equivalent to £12.42 a month). Both plans include 5 auditor seats and unlimited audits across unlimited client operators; extra seats are £2 a month or £20 a year each. An optional Archive Plan keeps historical audits as read-only for £5 a month or £50 a year. Billing is handled securely by Stripe.
Can I brand the platform as my own company?+
Yes — it is fully white-label. Upload your logo and set your brand colours, and they appear throughout the dashboard, on every PDF report and on the public verify page. That makes it ideal for independent auditors and consultancies who want to deliver branded DVSA audits to their own client base.
