Fire Prevention - Not Fire Fighting

André Renner

The authorities like to keep us on our toes but we must always remember why they do what they do. Keeping us safe. Sometimes the rules and regulations can feel unnecessary or irrelevant but whether we love or hate them we need to adhere to these or walk away. For most of us waking away is not a real option but what we can all do is be a good little boy scout and, be prepared.

A constant frustration for me is seeing operators all around me that need help but don’t even know it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spoken to a driver only for me to realise that they need help and quickly. One pull, one misdemeanour and you can bet your bottom dollar that they will get an investigation. I guess some people just can’t be helped until it’s too late.

I’ve worked with people who’s favourite saying is “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”.

Well, what if the bridge is already on fire?

You see, my attitude has always been “fire prevention” rather than “fire fighting”. Let’s deal with issues before they arise and cause havoc.

So, things to prepare for.

TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), tyres (FRT’s truck and trailer vs. steering axels) and trailer regs. are changing.

Are you aware?
Are you prepared?
