List of 'PG' Prohibition Notices

The DVSA can issue a number of other PG notices. The letters "PG" in the context of DVSA prohibition notices stand for "Prohibition of Use".  Following is a list of PG Notices issued by the DVSA:
  • PG9 - Prohibition Notice (Immediate or Delayed)

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle unfit for service owing to defects. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving immediately or within a specified period of time, not exceeding 10 days.

  • PG9A - Delayed Prohibition Notice

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with minor defects that do not pose an immediate risk to safety. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving within a specified period of time, not exceeding 10 days, to allow the defects to be repaired.

  • PG9B - Authorisation to Move a Vehicle

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they have prohibited a vehicle from driving. The notice authorises the vehicle to be moved to a nominated place of repair or storage.

  • PG9C - Refusal to Remove Prohibition Notice

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they have prohibited a vehicle from driving and the defects have not been repaired. The notice states that the vehicle will not be allowed to drive again until the defects have been repaired.

  • PG9D - Prohibition Notice for Overweight or Overloaded Vehicles

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle that is overweight or overloaded. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the excess weight has been removed.

  • PG9E - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Dangerous Goods

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle that is carrying dangerous goods. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the dangerous goods have been properly secured.

  • PG9F - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Tyres

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with defective tyres. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the tyres have been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9G - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Brakes

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with defective brakes. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the brakes have been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9H - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Steering

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with defective steering. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the steering has been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9I - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Lights

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with defective lights. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the lights have been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9J - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Windscreens

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with a defective windscreen. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the windscreen has been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9K - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Mirrors

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with defective mirrors. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the mirrors have been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9L - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Horns

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with a defective horn. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the horn has been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9M - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Emissions Control Systems

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with a defective emissions control system. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the emissions control system has been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9N - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with a defective tyre pressure monitoring system. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the tyre pressure monitoring system has been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9O - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Seatbelts

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with defective seatbelts. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the seatbelts have been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9P - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Child Restraints

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with defective child restraints. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the child restraints have been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9Q - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Mudguards

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with defective mudguards. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the mudguards have been repaired or replaced.

  • PG9R - Prohibition Notice for Vehicles with Defective Exhaust Systems

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they find a vehicle with a defective exhaust system. The vehicle may be prohibited from driving until the exhaust system has been repaired or replaced.

  • PG10 - Removal of Prohibition Notice

This notice is issued by a DVSA vehicle examiner if they have prohibited a vehicle from driving and the defects have been repaired. The notice authorises the vehicle to be driven again.

Here is a list of some less popular PG Notices:

PG11: This is issued if a vehicle is found to be carrying dangerous goods without the correct documentation. The vehicle will be immobilised until the correct documentation is produced.

PG12: This is issued if a vehicle is found to be in a condition that is likely to cause danger to other road users. The vehicle will be immobilised until the defects have been rectified.

PG13: This is issued if a vehicle is found to be being operated by an unlicensed driver. The driver will be prohibited from driving the vehicle and may be prosecuted.

PG14: This is issued if a vehicle is found to be being operated by a driver who is unfit to drive due to alcohol or drug use. The driver will be prohibited from driving the vehicle and may be prosecuted.
